Shop Sabbatical: Jan + Feb 2021

October 19, 2020 [Updated December 27, 2020]

Dear Redbeard community,

We’re reaching out to update you on where we’re at — as a shop, and as humans.

This year, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we received a record number of requests for new bikes, bike service, and bike fittings. Through-the-roof, non-stop, since March.

We are thrilled to see so many New Yorkers turn to bikes! That said, we’re a small team, and this year we had some staff departures that — coupled with the unprecedented demand — have accelerated some changes we’d been planning anyway.

TL;DR: Redbeard Bikes will be closed January 1 through February 28, 2021, while we take a sabbatical to rest and regroup. We plan to re-open in March, with a renewed focus on bike fitting.

After eight years running Redbeard Bikes as a bustling full-service shop, we are returning to our original vision of a bike fit studio. We’ll be building custom bikes (frames by Parlee, Seven, Mosaic, Gunnar and Co-Motion), and adjusting your existing bikes so you can ride without pain or injury.

We will continue to sell Specialized and 3T bikes, Redbeard cycling kit, and the best cycling gear. And we’ll still offer service by appointment, as we have done this year, but with reduced capacity.

We’ll share more info about our new offerings, in March.

If you are on a wait list for a new bike consult, a sizing or fitting, or service: thank you for your patience. We will be in touch as soon as we have an opening.

Our web store remains live in our absence; most web orders will ship once a week. (Orders for frames and bikes, including Bromptons, will be processed in early March.)

We look forward to welcoming you to the shop in the spring.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2021!
